La Route Pagarine
This Franco-Italian itinerary connects Nice to Cuneo, passing through the Vésubie Valley, the Mercantour National Park, and the Alpi Marittime Park. It starts from the impressive Großes Palmenhaus of Schönbrunn Palace, the former summer residence of the Habsburgs, crosses the serene Vienna University Botanic Garden, which was founded in the 18th century by Maria Theresa. The visitors then go on to Resselpark, adjoining the famous Karlskirche, and from there to the picturesque Rathauspark, at the rear of the City Hall of Vienna. This route starts at Teich am Himmel, a peaceful pond in the 19th district surrounded by nature, perfect for relaxation at the start. Further on, it takes one toward Cobenzl, from where one can see a panoramic view of Vienna and the Danube. Afterward, hikers go along forested paths toward Kahlenberg, with views that take one’s breath away. The tour continues into the peaceful Vienna Woods to Nussberg, covered in vines, one of the favorite spots in Vienna with its wine taverns. The trip ends in the village of Grinzing, which is popularly known as a picture postcard village with its traditional Heuriger wine houses.

Beginning from Altstadt Schmankerl in the middle of Krems’ old town, take some time for local Austrian specialties in this busy daily market. The next stopover should be the Karikaturmuseum Krems-a somewhat special museum featuring caricatures and comic art, combined with Austria’s rich cultural heritage. From here, continue to Heuriger Weingut Hamböck, a traditional Austrian wine tavern in Steiner Kellergasse, and taste local wines in rustic surroundings. Continue to Weingut Nikolaihof Wachau, really old Austria’s winery, just across the Danube in Mautern, where you’ll find the methods of production for biodynamic wine. Make a stop at Ausblick am Welterbesteig and enjoy the breathtaking view of Krems and its vineyards; last but not least, see panoramic views up the Wachau Valley and down the Danube River from the viewing point at ÖTK – Donauwarte to make for a fitting finale of your eco-friendly journey.
