Beginning from Altstadt Schmankerl in the middle of Krems’ old town, take some time for local Austrian specialties in this busy daily market. The next stopover should be the Karikaturmuseum Krems-a somewhat special museum featuring caricatures and comic art, combined with Austria’s rich cultural heritage. From here, continue to Heuriger Weingut Hamböck, a traditional Austrian wine tavern in Steiner Kellergasse, and taste local wines in rustic surroundings. Continue to Weingut Nikolaihof Wachau, really old Austria’s winery, just across the Danube in Mautern, where you’ll find the methods of production for biodynamic wine. Make a stop at Ausblick am Welterbesteig and enjoy the breathtaking view of Krems and its vineyards; last but not least, see panoramic views up the Wachau Valley and down the Danube River from the viewing point at ÖTK – Donauwarte to make for a fitting finale of your eco-friendly journey.
